Surah 3: Al Imran (The Family of Imran)
Introduction:
Surah Al ʿImran is the 3rd chapter of the Qur’an and contains 200 verses. It was revealed in Medina after the migration of the Prophet Muhammad (S) and primarily addresses events and issues related to the Muslim community, particularly following the Battle of Uhud.
The surah (Al Imran) is named after ‘Imran’, the father of Maryam (Mary) and the grandfather of Prophet ʿIsa (Jesus). The family of Imran is honored for their devotion and purity. The chapter presents them as a symbol of sincere faith and obedience to Allah.
Main themes of Surah Al ʿImrān are-
Unity and Strength of Faith – Encouraging believers to remain firm and united in difficult times.
Clarification about Prophet Jesus and Maryam – Affirming their truth and rejecting false claims made by some among the People of the Book.
Dialogue with Christians and Jews – Inviting them to the truth with wisdom and respect.
Lessons from the Battles of Badr and Uhud – Teaching Muslims about trust in Allah, discipline, and the dangers of disobedience.
Warning against hypocrisy – Exposing those who pretend to believe but betray the cause.
Emphasis on charity, patience, and righteousness – Highlighting the qualities of true believers.
This surah (Al Imran) combines spiritual guidance with historical reflection, reminding Muslims to rely on Allah, seek knowledge, and stand firm in the face of trials.
Surah 3: Al Imran (The Family of Imran): Text
In the name of God (Allah), the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
1. A.L.M. (These are Arabic letters whose full meaning is known only to Allah.)
2. Allah—there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the One who sustains all.
3. He sent down the Book (the Qur’an) to you with truth, confirming what came before it. He also sent down the Torah and the Gospel.
4. Before this, as guidance for people. And He sent the Qur’an as the final standard to judge between right and wrong. Those who reject Allah’s signs will have a severe punishment. Allah is Mighty, capable of punishment.
5. Nothing on earth or in the heavens is hidden from Allah.
6. He is the One who shapes you in the wombs as He wills. There is no god but Him—the Almighty, the Wise.
7. He is the One who sent down the Book to you. Some verses are clear—they are the foundation of the Book. Others are unclear. Those with evil in their hearts follow the unclear parts, trying to create doubt and confusion. But only Allah knows their true meaning. Those strong in knowledge say, “We believe in all of it—it is from our Lord.” Only people with understanding will take this to heart.
8. “Our Lord, do not let our hearts go astray after You have guided us. Give us Your mercy. You are the Giver of blessings.”
9. “Our Lord, You will gather all people on a Day in which there is no doubt. Surely, Allah does not break His promise.”
10. Those who disbelieve—neither their wealth nor their children will help them against Allah. They will be fuel for the Fire.
11. Their case is like Pharaoh’s people and those before them. They denied Our signs, so Allah punished them. Allah is severe in punishment.
12. Tell the disbelievers: “You will be defeated and gathered to Hell—a terrible place to rest!”
13. You have already seen a sign: a group of believers fought a larger disbelieving group, and Allah helped the believers. Surely in that is a lesson for those who see with insight.
14. People love worldly things: women, children, gold, silver, fine horses, cattle, and land. But all that is temporary. The best place to return to is with Allah.
15. Say: “Shall I tell you something better than all that? For those who are mindful of Allah, there will be gardens beneath which rivers flow. They will live there forever, with pure spouses and Allah’s pleasure.” Allah sees His servants.
16. They are the ones who say, “Our Lord, we believe—so forgive us and protect us from the Fire.”
17. They are patient, truthful, humble, generous, and ask for forgiveness at dawn.
18. Allah Himself, the angels, and people of knowledge all testify: there is no god but Him. He is fair in justice. There is no god but Him—the Almighty, the Wise.
19. The only true religion with Allah is Islam (submission to Him). Those who received the Book before disagreed only out of pride and jealousy, after knowledge had come to them. But whoever denies Allah’s signs—Allah is swift in judgment.
20. If they argue with you, say: “I have submitted to Allah, and so have my followers.” Ask those given the Book and those without it, “Will you also submit to Allah?” If they accept, they are rightly guided. If they turn away, your duty is only to deliver the message. Allah sees His servants.
21. Those who reject Allah’s signs, kill the prophets unjustly, and kill people who call for justice—give them the news of a painful punishment.
22. Their deeds are worthless in this world and the next. They will have no helpers.
23. Have you not seen those who were given part of the Book? They are called to the Book of Allah to judge between them, but some turn away and reject it.
24. That is because they say, “The Fire will only touch us for a few days.” Their lies have deceived them in their religion.
25. But how will it be when We gather them on the Day in which there is no doubt, and every soul will be paid in full for what it has done? They will not be wronged.
26. Say: “O Allah, You are the Owner of all control. You give power to whom You will and take it from whom You will. You honor whom You will and disgrace whom You will. All good is in Your hand. You have power over everything.”
27. “You make the night turn into day, and the day into night. You bring the living out of the dead and the dead out of the living. You give without limit to whomever You will.”
28. Believers should not take non-believers as close allies instead of believers. Whoever does that will have no help from Allah—unless you are protecting yourself from danger. Allah warns you to be mindful of Him, for the final return is to Him.
29. Say: “Whether you hide what’s in your hearts or reveal it, Allah knows it. He knows everything in the heavens and the earth. Allah is able to do all things.”
30. On the Day every soul will find whatever good it has done present before it—and whatever evil it has done. It will wish there were a great distance between itself and the evil. Allah warns you to be mindful of Him. Allah is kind to His servants.
31. Say: “If you truly love Allah, then follow me. Allah will love you and forgive your sins. Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”
32. Say: “Obey Allah and the Messenger.” But if they turn away—Allah does not love the disbelievers.
33. Allah chose Adam, Noah, the family of Abraham, and the family of Imran above all people.
34. They were descendants of one another. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
35. When the wife of Imran said, “My Lord, I dedicate what is in my womb to You for Your service. Accept it from me. You are the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.”
36. When she gave birth, she said, “My Lord, I have given birth to a girl”—and Allah knew what she had delivered—“and I have named her Maryam, and I ask Your protection for her and her children from Satan.”
37. Her Lord accepted her with goodness, made her grow in purity, and placed her under the care of Zakariya. Whenever Zakariya visited her in her room, he found provisions with her. He asked, “O Mary, where did this come from?” She replied, “It is from Allah. Allah provides for whom He wills without limit.”
38. Then Zakariya prayed, “My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good child. You are the Hearer of prayer.”
39. The angels called to him while he stood praying, “Allah gives you good news of a son named Yahya (John), confirming the word from Allah, noble and pure, a prophet among the righteous.”
40. He said, “My Lord, how can I have a son when I am old and my wife is barren?” The angel replied, “That is how Allah does whatever He wills.”
41. He said, “My Lord, give me a sign.” Allah said, “Your sign is that you will not speak to people for three days except by gestures. Remember your Lord often and praise Him in the morning and evening.”
42. The angels said, “O Mary, Allah has chosen you and purified you. He has chosen you above all women of the world.”
43. “O Mary, be devoted to your Lord. Bow down and prostrate with those who pray.”
44. This is part of the unseen news We reveal to you, O Prophet. You were not with them when they cast lots to decide who would care for Mary, and you were not with them when they argued about it.
45. The angels said, “O Mary, Allah gives you good news of a word from Him—his name will be the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary—honored in this world and the next, and one of those nearest to Allah.”
46. “He will speak to people in the cradle and as an adult and will be one of the righteous.”
47. She said, “My Lord, how can I have a son when no man has touched me?” He said, “That is how Allah creates whatever He wills. When He decides something, He just says ‘Be,’ and it is.”
48. “And He will teach him the Book, wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel.”
49. “He will be a messenger to the Children of Israel, saying: ‘I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. I can make a bird shape from clay, breathe into it, and it becomes a living bird—by Allah’s permission. I heal the blind and the leper and bring the dead back to life—by Allah’s permission. I will tell you what you eat and what you store in your homes. These are signs for you, if you believe.’”
50. “‘I have come to confirm what came before me in the Torah, and to make lawful some things that were forbidden to you. I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. So be mindful of Allah and obey me.’”
51. “‘Surely, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is the straight path.’”
52. When Jesus felt that the people were rejecting the truth, he said, “Who will support me in the cause of Allah?” The disciples replied, “We are Allah’s helpers. We believe in Him, and bear witness that we are Muslims (those who submit to Him).”
53. “Our Lord! We believe in what You have revealed and we follow the messenger. Count us among the witnesses.”
54. They (the disbelievers) planned to harm him, but Allah also planned—and Allah is the best of planners.
55. Allah said, “O Jesus! I will take you and raise you to Myself. I will purify you from those who disbelieve, and I will make your followers superior to the disbelievers until the Day of Judgment. Then you will all return to Me, and I will judge between you about your differences.”
56. “As for those who disbelieved, I will punish them with a severe punishment in this world and the Hereafter. They will have no helpers.”
57. “And those who believe and do good deeds—I will fully reward them. Allah does not love those who do wrong.”
58. These are the verses We recite to you with truth, and truly, you are one of the messengers.
59. The example of Jesus in the sight of Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust, then said to him, “Be,” and he was.
60. This is the truth from your Lord, so do not be among those who doubt.
61. If anyone argues with you about this after knowledge has come to you, say, “Come, let us bring our children and your children, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves. Then let us pray and ask Allah to curse the liars.”
62. This is certainly the true story. There is no god but Allah, and surely Allah is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
63. But if they turn away, then Allah knows well those who cause corruption.
64. Say: “O People of the Book! Come to a common word between us and you: that we worship none but Allah, and that we don’t take any partners with Him, and that we don’t take one another as lords besides Allah.” If they turn away, say, “Bear witness that we are Muslims.”
65. O People of the Book! Why do you argue about Abraham, when the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until long after him? Don’t you understand?
66. Here you are—you argue about things you have knowledge of. But why do you argue about what you have no knowledge of? Allah knows, and you do not know.
67. Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian; he was a pure believer—one who submitted to Allah. He was not one of the idol worshippers.
68. The people who have the closest claim to Abraham are those who follow him, this Prophet, and the believers. And Allah is the protector of the believers.
69. Some among the People of the Book want to mislead you, but they only mislead themselves, though they don’t realize it.
70. O People of the Book! Why do you reject the signs of Allah, while you yourselves witness their truth?
71. O People of the Book! Why do you mix truth with falsehood and hide the truth knowingly?
72. A group among them said, “Believe in what was revealed to the Muslims at the start of the day and reject it at the end—so they might return to doubt.”
73. And they said, “Don’t trust anyone except those who follow your religion.” Say: “True guidance is Allah’s guidance.” Do you fear that someone else may receive knowledge like you did—or even challenge you with it before your Lord? Say: “All grace is in Allah’s hands. He gives it to whomever He wills. Allah is most generous and all-knowing.”
74. He chooses for His mercy whomever He wills. Allah is the Owner of great bounty.
75. Among the People of the Book are those you can trust with great wealth—they will return it faithfully. But others, if you entrust them with a single coin, they won’t return it unless you keep insisting. That’s because they say, “We’re not bound to be honest with those outside our faith.” But they lie about Allah, knowingly.
76. No! Whoever fulfills their promise and is mindful of Allah—then Allah loves those who do right.
77. Those who sell their promise to Allah and their oaths for a small price—they will have no share in the Hereafter. Allah will not speak to them, nor look at them on the Day of Judgment, nor purify them. And they will have a painful punishment.
78. There are some among them who twist their tongues while reading the Book so that you think it is part of the Book, even though it is not. They say, “This is from Allah,” but it is not from Allah. They knowingly lie about Him.
79. It is not appropriate for someone who Allah has blessed with the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood to say to people, ‘Worship me instead of Allah.’ Rather, he would say, ‘Be devoted to the worship of your Lord ˹alone˺—by virtue of what you read in the Scripture and what you teach.
80. He would never command you to take angels and prophets as lords. Would he command you to disbelieve after you had submitted to Allah?
81. Allah took a covenant from the prophets: “If I give you a Book and wisdom, and then a messenger comes confirming what you have, you must believe in him and support him.” Allah said, “Do you agree and take this as My binding promise?” They said, “We agree.” He said, “Then bear witness, and I am with you among the witnesses.”
82. If anyone turns away after this, then they are the ones who have truly rebelled.
83. Do they seek a religion other than Allah’s, when everything in the heavens and the earth submits to Him—willingly or unwillingly—and to Him they will all return?
84. Say: “We believe in Allah, and what was revealed to us, and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the tribes; and in what was given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we submit to Him.”
85. Whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from them, and in the Hereafter they will be among the losers.
86. How can Allah guide a people who disbelieved after believing, and had testified that the Messenger is true, and had clear signs come to them? Allah does not guide wrongdoers.
87. Their punishment is that the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people will be on them.
88. They will stay under that curse forever. Their punishment will not be lightened, nor will they be given any delay.
89. But those who repent afterwards and fix their ways—then Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
90. Those who disbelieve after believing—and keep increasing in disbelief—their repentance will never be accepted. These are truly lost people.
91. Those who disbelieve and die in that state—even if they offered all the gold on earth to save themselves—it would not be accepted. They will suffer a painful punishment and will have no helpers.
92. You will never achieve true righteousness until you give from what you love. Whatever you give, Allah knows it well.
93. All food was lawful for the Children of Israel except what Israel (Jacob) made forbidden for himself before the Torah was revealed. Say, “Bring the Torah and recite it, if you are truthful.”
94. Whoever fabricates lies about Allah after this—they are truly wrongdoers.
95. Say: “Allah has spoken the truth. So follow the faith of Abraham, who was upright and not among those who worship idols.”
96. The first house of worship appointed for people was at Bakkah (Makkah), a blessed place and guidance for all the worlds.
97. In it are clear signs—the place where Abraham stood. Whoever enters it is safe. Pilgrimage to the House is a duty owed to Allah by all who are able to make the journey. But whoever refuses—Allah is free of need from the worlds.
98. Say: “O People of the Book! Why do you reject Allah’s signs, when Allah is witness to all you do?”
99. Say: “O People of the Book! Why do you try to block believers from the path of Allah, wanting to make it crooked, while you know the truth? Allah is not unaware of what you do.”
100. O believers! If you obey a group of those who were given the Book, they will turn you back to disbelief after you had believed.
101. How can you disbelieve when Allah’s verses are recited to you and His Messenger is among you? Whoever holds firmly to Allah is truly guided to the straight path.
102. O believers! Be mindful of Allah as He deserves, and do not die except as Muslims.
103. Hold firmly to the rope of Allah together, and do not divide. Remember Allah’s favor on you when you were enemies, and He brought your hearts together. You became brothers by His grace. You were on the edge of a pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. That’s how Allah makes His signs clear so you may be guided.
104. Let there be a group among you who calls to good, encourages what is right, and forbids what is wrong. They will be successful.
105. Do not be like those who became divided and disagreed after clear proofs came to them. They will have a terrible punishment.
106. On the Day when some faces will be bright and others dark, it will be said to those with darkened faces: “Did you disbelieve after believing? Then taste the punishment for your disbelief.”
107. But those with bright faces will be in Allah’s mercy—they will stay there forever.
108. These are Allah’s verses. We recite them to you in truth. Allah wants no injustice for the world.
109. Everything in the heavens and earth belongs to Allah. All matters return to Him.
110. You are the best community raised for people—you encourage good, forbid evil, and believe in Allah. If the People of the Book had believed, it would’ve been better for them. Some believe, but most are rebellious.
111. They will not harm you except for small trouble. If they fight you, they will run away in defeat. They will have no help.
112. Disgrace is upon them wherever they go unless they hold onto a rope from Allah or from people. They brought this on themselves by denying Allah’s messages and killing the prophets without right. That’s because they disobeyed and kept going too far.
113. But not all People of the Book are alike. Among them are those who stand in prayer at night, reciting Allah’s verses and bowing in worship.
114. They believe in Allah and the Last Day, encourage good, forbid evil, and race to do good deeds. They are among the righteous.
115. Whatever good they do will never go unrewarded. Allah knows those who are mindful of Him.
116. As for disbelievers, neither their wealth nor children will benefit them against Allah. They are people of the Fire—there they will stay.
117. The example of what they spend in this life is like a freezing wind that hits a crop belonging to people who wronged themselves—and it destroys it. Allah did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves.
118. O believers! Don’t take outsiders as close allies. They only want to harm you. Their hatred shows in their words, but what’s in their hearts is worse. We have made the signs clear—if you understand.
119. Look! You love them, but they don’t love you. You believe in all the Scriptures, but when they meet you, they say “We believe,” and when alone, they bite their fingers in rage. Say, “Die in your anger. Allah knows what is in every heart.”
120. If good happens to you, they get upset. But if hardship comes to you, they rejoice. If you are patient and mindful of Allah, their plans won’t harm you at all. Allah surrounds everything they do.
121. Remember when you left your family early to assign the believers their positions for the battle. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
122. When two groups among you almost lost heart, but Allah protected them—let the believers put their trust in Him.
123. Allah helped you at Badr, even though you were weak. So be mindful of Allah—perhaps you will be grateful.
124. When you said to the believers, “Isn’t it enough that your Lord will help you with 3,000 angels sent down?”
125. Yes—if you remain patient and mindful of Allah, and they attack you suddenly, your Lord will support you with 5,000 angels, clearly marked.
126. Allah made this good news to reassure your hearts. Victory comes only from Allah—the Almighty, the Wise.
127. He did this to cut off a group of the disbelievers or crush them so they retreat defeated.
128. You have no control over what happens. Allah may forgive them or punish them—for they are wrongdoers.
129. To Allah belongs everything in the heavens and the earth. He forgives whomever He wills and punishes whomever He wills. Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
130. O believers! Do not consume interest, multiplying it many times over. Be mindful of Allah so you may succeed.
131. And fear the Fire, prepared for the disbelievers.
132. Obey Allah and the Messenger so that you may receive mercy.
133. Race towards forgiveness from your Lord and a paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth, prepared for the righteous.
134. Those who give in charity in good times and hard times, who control their anger, and who forgive others—Allah loves those who do good.
135. When they sin or wrong themselves, they remember Allah, ask for forgiveness—and who can forgive sins except Allah? They don’t keep doing wrong knowingly.
136. Their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and gardens beneath which rivers flow, where they will live forever. What a beautiful reward for those who act!
137. Many civilizations came before you. Travel the land and see what happened to those who denied the truth.
138. This is a clear lesson for people and guidance and warning for the mindful.
139. So don’t lose heart or feel sad—you will succeed if you are true believers.
140. If you have been hurt, know that the other side has also been hurt. Such days We alternate among people. Allah tests you to see who is truly faithful and to make some of you martyrs. Allah does not love those who do wrong.
141. These trials cleanse the believers and remove the wicked.
142. Did you think you would enter Paradise without Allah testing who among you struggled and remained patient?
143. Before the battle, you used to wish for martyrdom. Now you have seen it with your own eyes.
144. Muhammad is only a messenger. Other messengers have passed before him. If he dies or is killed, will you turn back? If you do, it won’t harm Allah at all. Allah will reward those who remain grateful.
145. No soul can die except by Allah’s permission at a set time. Whoever desires the rewards of this world, We will give them some of it. But whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter, We will give them from it. We will reward the grateful.
146. Many prophets had devoted followers who fought alongside them. They never lost hope or gave up when faced with difficulty. Allah loves the steadfast.
147. Their only words were: “Our Lord, forgive our sins, our mistakes, and help us stay strong. Give us victory over the disbelievers.”
148. So Allah gave them the reward of this world and the best reward in the next. Allah loves those who do good.
149. O believers! If you follow those who disbelieve, they will turn you back into disbelievers—and you will lose.
150. But Allah is your protector, and He is the best of helpers.
151. We will place fear into the hearts of the disbelievers because they worship others besides Allah—things that have no power. Their home will be the Fire—what a terrible place for wrongdoers.
152. Allah fulfilled His promise when you were defeating them with His help, until you lost courage, argued, and disobeyed after He showed you victory. Some of you wanted worldly gain, while others wanted the Hereafter. Then He turned you away from victory to test you. Yet He forgave you. Allah is full of grace to the believers.
153. Remember when you were running and didn’t look back at anyone, while the Messenger was calling you from behind. So Allah repaid you with sorrow after sorrow, so that you wouldn’t grieve over what you missed or what happened. Allah is fully aware of what you do.
154. Then, after the sorrow, He sent down peace and calm on some of you. But others were anxious and had wrong thoughts about Allah—thoughts of ignorance. They said, “Do we have any say in this matter?” Say: “All matters belong to Allah.” They hide in their hearts what they won’t say to you. They say, “If we had a say, none of us would have died here.” Say: “Even if you stayed in your homes, those who were meant to die would have come to their places of death.” This happened so that Allah could test what’s in your hearts and purify what’s inside you. Allah knows what is in hearts.
155. Those who turned back on the day the two armies met were tricked by Satan because of some of their past sins. But Allah has already forgiven them. Allah is Forgiving, Forbearing.
156. O believers! Don’t be like those who disbelieve and say about their dead, “If only they had stayed with us, they wouldn’t have died or been killed.” Allah makes this a cause of regret in their hearts. It is Allah who gives life and death. Allah sees what you do.
157. If you are killed or die in Allah’s cause, forgiveness and mercy from Him are far better than all they collect.
158. Whether you die or are killed, you will be gathered to Allah.
159. It was by Allah’s mercy that you were gentle with them. If you had been harsh or hard-hearted, they would have left you. So forgive them, pray for them, and consult with them. When you decide, put your trust in Allah. Allah loves those who trust Him.
160. If Allah helps you, no one can defeat you. If He abandons you, who else can help? So let the believers trust in Allah.
161. It is not possible for a prophet to betray. Whoever betrays will be held accountable for it on the Day of Judgment. Then every soul will be paid in full for what it has done. No one will be wronged.
162. Is someone who seeks Allah’s pleasure like someone who earns Allah’s anger? Their end is Hell—a terrible place to return.
163. They are in different ranks before Allah. Allah sees all they do.
164. Allah truly blessed the believers when He sent a messenger from among them, reciting His verses, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom—even though before this, they were clearly lost.
165. When a disaster struck you (at Uhud), though you had struck them with one twice as bad (at Badr), you said, “How did this happen?” Say: “It is from yourselves.” Allah is able to do all things.
166. What happened to you on the day the two armies met was by Allah’s will, so He could know the true believers.
167. And so He could expose the hypocrites who were told, “Come fight in Allah’s cause, or at least defend.” They said, “If we knew there would be fighting, we’d follow you.” They were closer to disbelief than faith that day. They said with their mouths what wasn’t in their hearts. Allah knows what they hide.
168. They said about their brothers who stayed behind, “If they had listened to us, they wouldn’t have been killed.” Say: “Then protect yourselves from death, if you are truthful.”
169. Do not think those killed in Allah’s cause are dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision.
170. They rejoice in what Allah has given them, and they are happy for those who haven’t yet joined them—that they will have nothing to fear or grieve.
171. They are joyful at the blessings and bounty of Allah and that Allah doesn’t waste the reward of the believers.
172. Those who responded to Allah and His Messenger after being wounded—those who do good and are mindful of Allah—will have a great reward.
173. When people said, “They’ve gathered against you, so fear them,” it only increased their faith, and they said, “Allah is enough for us. He is the best protector.”
174. So they returned with Allah’s favor and grace—no harm touched them. They followed what pleased Allah. Allah is full of grace.
175. It is only Satan trying to scare you with his followers. Don’t fear them—fear Me, if you are believers.
176. Don’t be saddened by those who rush into disbelief. They can’t harm Allah in any way. Allah does not want to give them a share in the Hereafter. A painful punishment awaits them.
177. Those who trade belief for disbelief cannot harm Allah. A painful punishment is theirs.
178. Don’t let disbelievers think that giving them time is good for them. We only give them more time so they increase in sin. A humiliating punishment awaits them.
179. Allah would not leave the believers in the condition they are in until He separates the bad from the good. And He would not show you the unseen. But Allah chooses whomever He wills from His messengers. So believe in Allah and His messengers. If you believe and are mindful, you’ll have a great reward.
180. Those who are greedy with what Allah has given them shouldn’t think it’s good for them—it’s actually bad. On the Day of Judgment, what they hoarded will be tied around their necks. Allah is the owner of the heavens and the earth, and He knows everything you do.
181. Allah has heard those who said, “Allah is poor, and we are rich.” We will record what they said and their killing of the prophets without right. We will say, “Taste the punishment of the Fire.”
182. “This is what you earned with your hands. Allah is never unjust to His servants.”
183. They said, “Allah made a promise to us not to believe in a messenger unless he brings an offering that fire from heaven consumes.” Say: “Messengers came before me with clear signs and this same miracle, but you killed them. Why then did you kill them, if you were truthful?”
184. If they reject you, many messengers were rejected before you, even though they came with clear signs, scriptures, and the enlightening Book.
185. Every soul will taste death. You’ll be paid your full reward on the Day of Judgment. Whoever is saved from the Fire and enters Paradise is truly successful. This life is only a deceiving enjoyment.
186. You will surely be tested in your wealth and yourselves, and you’ll hear much abuse from those given the Book and the idol worshippers. But if you are patient and mindful of Allah, that is the best path.
187. Allah took a promise from those who were given the Book: “Explain it clearly to people and don’t hide it.” But they threw it away, traded it for a small price—what a terrible deal!
188. Don’t think those who enjoy being praised for what they didn’t do and love to be praised are safe from punishment—they will have a painful punishment.
189. To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. Allah has power over all things.
190. Surely in the creation of the heavens and earth, and the alternation of night and day, there are signs for people of reason.
191. Those who remember Allah while standing, sitting, and lying down, and reflect on the creation, saying: “Our Lord, You didn’t create this for nothing. Glory be to You! Protect us from the Fire.”
192. “Our Lord! Whoever You put into the Fire—You have truly disgraced them. The wrongdoers will have no helpers.”
193. “Our Lord! We heard a caller calling to faith, ‘Believe in your Lord,’ so we believed. Forgive our sins, erase our bad deeds, and let us die with the righteous.”
194. “Our Lord! Give us what You promised through Your messengers, and don’t disgrace us on the Day of Judgment. You never break Your promise.”
195. So their Lord answered: “I will never waste the work of any of you—male or female. You are all the same. Those who left their homes, were driven out, harmed, fought, and were killed—I will forgive their sins and admit them into gardens beneath which rivers flow. A reward from Allah. Allah has the best reward.”
196. Don’t be fooled by the movement of the disbelievers in the land.
197. It’s only a little enjoyment—then their final place is Hell, a miserable resting place.
198. But those who are mindful of their Lord will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. They will live there forever—a gift from Allah. What Allah has is far better for the righteous.
199. Some among the People of the Book truly believe in Allah, in what was revealed to you and what was revealed to them. They humble themselves before Allah, don’t trade Allah’s words for a small price. Their reward is with their Lord. Allah is swift in reckoning.
200. O believers! Be patient, strengthen one another, remain steadfast, and be mindful of Allah so you may succeed. 0 0 0
