Surah 4: An-Nisa (The Women)
Introduction
Surah An-Nisāʼ is the 4th chapter of the Qur’an and contains 176 verses (ayahs). It was revealed in Medina after the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) migrated from Mecca. This chapter mainly deals with laws, social justice, and community welfare—especially concerning women, families, and vulnerable members of society.
The surah An-Nisa deals with the following main themes:
Rights of Women and Orphans: The Surah begins by emphasizing justice, especially in family matters. It speaks about the rights of women, inheritance laws, and the fair treatment of orphans, encouraging people to act responsibly with their wealth and family duties.
Marriage and Family Laws: It provides detailed guidance about marriage, divorce, polygamy, and the responsibilities of husbands and wives. These laws are meant to protect both men and women and create a balanced and moral society.
Justice and Fairness: Surah An-Nisāʼ strongly emphasizes justice, both in legal matters and personal behaviour. It warns against betrayal, injustice, and corruption, even if it involves close family members.
Dealing with Hypocrites: The Surah exposes the behavior of hypocrites (those who pretend to be Muslim but work against Islam). It warns believers to be sincere and not to side with those who deceive or harm the Muslim community.
Belief in All Messengers: A major theme is the unity of belief in all prophets and messengers. It criticizes people who accept some messengers but reject others, especially addressing the People of the Book (Jews and Christians), urging them to accept the truth brought by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Inheritance Laws: The Surah lays out specific inheritance shares for family members to ensure wealth is distributed justly after someone dies. These laws were revolutionary at the time and gave women rights to inheritance that they had previously been denied.
Accountability to Allah: The Surah repeatedly reminds us that Allah sees everything, and everyone will be judged for their intentions and actions. It encourages believers to stay firm in their faith and avoid arrogance or disobedience.
It is called An-Nissʼ (The Women) because it discusses many rulings and guidance related to women—especially their rights, their treatment in society, and their share in inheritance. The Surah established important reforms that elevated the status of women in 7th-century Arabia and remain essential today.
Surah 4: An-Nisāʼ (The Women): Text
O humanity! Be mindful of your Lord Who created you from a single soul, and from it He created its mate, and through both He spread countless men and women. And be mindful of Allah —in Whose Name you appeal to one another—and ˹honour˺ family ties. Surely Allah is ever Watchful over you.”
Give orphans their property when they come of age. Don’t swap their good belongings with your lesser ones, and don’t mix their property into your own. That is a serious sin.
And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those women who are lawful to you—two, or three, or four. But if you fear that you will not be able to deal justly, then (marry only) one, or (limit yourself to) those whom your right hands possess. That is more likely to prevent you from doing injustice.”
Give women their marriage gift (dower) kindly. If they willingly let go of part of it, accept it with good heart.
Don’t let those who are mentally immature handle your wealth. Instead, care for them—feed and clothe them—and speak to them kindly.
Test orphans until they reach maturity. If they show sound judgement, return their wealth to them without squandering it early. Wealthy guardians shouldn’t take pay; those in need may take reasonable support. When giving back, always have witnesses. Allah is the ultimate Reckoner.
“For men there is a share in what their parents and close relatives leave, and for women there is a share in what their parents and close relatives leave—whether it is little or much. These are obligatory shares.”
If relatives, orphans, or the needy are present when dividing inheritance, give them something from it and speak kindly to them.
Guardians should act as if they might leave vulnerable heirs behind—fear Allah, and speak fair words.
Those who unjustly use or consume orphan property are only putting fire into their own bodies—they will burn in blazing fire.
Allah gives rules for inheritance: a son’s share equals that of two daughters. If only daughters: two or more get two‑thirds of the estate, one gets half. Parents each get a sixth if there are children. Without children, the mother may receive one‑third or sixth, depending on siblings. These shares apply after debts and bequests. Allah is Wise and Knowing.
Your share in your wife’s property is half if she leaves no children; one‑fourth if she does. Her share in your property is one‑fourth without children; one‑eighth with children. If no parents or children but siblings, they each get one‑sixth or together one‑third. Do not reclaim dowry when replacing one wife with another—it would be injustice.
These limits are set by Allah. Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger will enter Gardens beneath which rivers flow, and live eternally—that is great achievement.
But whoever disobeys and goes beyond Allah’s limits will be sent to Fire, where they will remain forever, with humiliating punishment.
If any woman among you is found guilty of sexual immorality, bring four reliable witnesses against her. If they testify, then keep the woman confined to her house until death comes to her, or until Allah provides another way out for her.
If two men among you are guilty of such behavior, punish them both. But if they repent and correct themselves, then leave them alone. Surely, Allah is Most Accepting of Repentance and Merciful.
Allah accepts the repentance of those who do wrong out of ignorance and then quickly turn back to Him. He will forgive them. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
But repentance is not accepted from those who continue doing bad things until death comes and they say, “Now I repent,” nor from those who die as disbelievers. For them, We have prepared a painful punishment.
O believers! You are not allowed to inherit women against their will, nor should you mistreat them to take back part of the dowry you gave—unless they are guilty of open indecency. Live with them honorably. If you dislike them, you may be disliking something in which Allah has placed a lot of good.
If you wish to replace one wife with another, even if you have given her a lot of wealth (as dowry), do not take anything back. Would you take it back by lying and doing wrong?
How can you take back anything from your wives after being so close and sharing a deep bond? They’ve given themselves to you in trust. Taking back their gifts would be wrong.
Do not marry women your fathers were married to—this was a shameful act in the past. It is sinful and offensive. This rule applies unless it happened before Islam.
You are forbidden to marry your mother, daughter, sister, aunt (paternal and maternal), niece, foster-mother, foster-sister, mother-in-law, step-daughter raised in your home (if you consummated marriage with her mother), and your son’s wives. Also, do not marry two sisters at the same time. Allah is forgiving and merciful if this happened before.
You are also not allowed to marry married women—except those you own by legal right (i.e., captives in war). This is Allah’s law. Other women are lawful for you through marriage, with proper gifts (dowry), if you seek them in honesty—not just for lust. If you agree on a dowry, there is no sin in adjusting it later.
If a man cannot afford to marry a free believing woman, he may marry a believing slave woman, with her guardian’s permission, and give her a proper dowry. She must live modestly—not openly sinful. If she commits indecency, she will receive half the punishment of a free woman. This is allowed for those struggling with desires. It’s better to be patient.
Allah wants to make things clear for you, guide you like those before you, and forgive you. He is All-Knowing and Wise.
Allah wants to forgive you, but those who follow desires want you to go far astray.
Allah wants to make things easy for you, because humans were created weak.
Believers, don’t eat up one another’s wealth unjustly or cheat in business. Do not kill yourselves (or each other). Allah is kind to you.
If anyone does these things unjustly and knowingly, they will be thrown into the Fire. That’s easy for Allah.
If you avoid the major sins that Allah has forbidden, He will forgive your lesser mistakes and let you enter a place of honor (Paradise).
Do not wish for what Allah has given others. Men will be rewarded for what they do, and so will women. Ask Allah for His favor—He knows everything.
We have assigned heirs to inherit from parents and close relatives. Also, honor your promises—Allah sees everything.
Men are protectors and caretakers of women because Allah has given them more responsibility and because they spend their money to support them. Good women are obedient and guard their honor in the absence of their husbands. If a wife shows rebellion, advise her, then avoid her in bed, and finally, if it continues, strike her lightly (without harm). If she returns to good behavior, do not be harsh. Allah is Most High and Great.
If a couple fears a serious dispute, appoint one mediator from his family and one from hers. If both want peace, Allah will help them make it. He knows everything.
Worship Allah alone, and do not join others with Him. Be kind to parents, relatives, orphans, the needy, neighbors (close and far), companions, travelers, and those under your care. Allah does not like those who are arrogant and boastful.
He also dislikes those who are stingy and tell others not to give, and hide what Allah has given them from His bounty. We have prepared a humiliating punishment for them.
Those who give money to show off but don’t believe in Allah or the Last Day are like Satan’s followers. Whoever makes Satan a friend will lose greatly.
What harm would have come to them if they believed in Allah and the Last Day and gave in charity from what Allah gave them? Allah knows them well.
Allah does not do even the smallest bit of injustice. Even the weight of a tiny speck will be multiplied into a big reward, and He will give from Himself a great reward.
What will happen when We bring a witness from every community—and bring you, O Muhammad, as a witness against your people?
On that Day, those who disbelieved and disobeyed the Messenger will wish the earth would swallow them. They won’t be able to hide anything from Allah.
Believers, don’t come near prayer when you’re drunk—wait until you know what you are saying. Also, don’t pray in a state of impurity (after sexual relations), unless you’re traveling—until you have washed your whole body. If you’re sick, or on a journey, or have relieved yourselves, or had relations and cannot find water, then use clean earth to wipe your face and hands. Allah is forgiving and merciful.
Have you seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture? They buy misguidance and want others to go astray.
Allah knows your enemies best. Allah is enough to protect and help you.
Some Jews distort words out of context and mockingly say things like “We hear and disobey” or “Listen, but may you not hear.” They twist their tongues to insult the religion. If they had said, “We hear and obey,” and “Please listen to us,” it would have been better. But Allah has cursed them because of their disbelief—they believe very little.
O People of the Book, believe in what We’ve revealed (the Qur’an) that confirms what you already have, before We erase faces or curse as We did to Sabbath-breakers. Allah’s command always happens.
Allah will never forgive someone who commits shirk (associating partners with Allah), but He may forgive anything else for whomever He wills. Whoever commits shirk has committed the worst sin.
Have you seen those who think they are pure? No one is truly pure except those whom Allah makes pure. No one will be wronged even as much as a thread on a date seed.
See how they lie against themselves? That in itself shows how clearly wrong they are.
Have you seen those who were given part of the Book, yet they believe in idols and false gods, and say, “These pagans are better guided than the believers”?
Those are the ones Allah has cursed. And whomever Allah curses, you will not find anyone to help him.
Do they really have a share in Allah’s kingdom? If so, they wouldn’t even give people as much as a speck of dust!
Are they jealous of the people for what Allah gave them out of His favor? Indeed, We gave Abraham’s family the Book and wisdom—and a great kingdom.
Some of them believed in it, but others turned away. The Fire of Hell is enough for them.
Those who reject Our signs—We will burn them in the Fire. Their skins will be roasted, and We will replace their skins again and again so they keep feeling the punishment. Surely Allah is Almighty and Wise.
But those who believe and do good will be entered into gardens under which rivers flow. They will live there forever. They will have pure spouses and live in perfect shade.
Allah commands you to return trusts to their rightful owners and judge fairly when you make decisions. Allah teaches you the best ways—He sees and hears everything.
Believers, obey Allah, obey the Messenger, and those in authority among you. If you disagree on something, refer it back to Allah and His Messenger—if you truly believe in Allah and the Last Day. That’s the best and fairest way.
Have you seen those who claim to believe in the Book and what was revealed to the Prophet, but still want to use false judges (like taghut) to settle their disputes—even though they were told to reject them? Satan wants to lead them far astray.
When they are told, “Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger,” you’ll see the hypocrites turn away from you completely.
But what if a disaster strikes them because of what their own hands have done? Then they come to you swearing they only wanted to do good and keep peace!
Allah knows what’s really in their hearts. So turn away from them, advise them kindly, and speak to them in words that reach their soul.
We did not send any Messenger except to be obeyed by Allah’s permission. If they had come to you when they did wrong—asking Allah for forgiveness—and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah Most Forgiving and Merciful.
No! By your Lord, they do not truly believe until they make you (O Prophet) judge in their disputes, and accept your decisions without any discomfort in their hearts—and fully submit.
If We had told them, “Give up your lives or leave your homes,” very few would have done it. But if they had done what they were told, it would have been better for them and more strengthening.
And We would have given them a great reward from Us.
And We would have guided them on the straight path.
Whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger will be with those Allah has blessed—the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous. What great company they are!
This is a blessing from Allah. And Allah is fully aware of everything.
O believers! Always be prepared. March in groups or all together for defense.
There are some among you who lag behind. If a disaster strikes you, they say, “Allah has been kind to us—we weren’t with them.”
But if success comes to you from Allah, they say (as if nothing happened), “Oh, I wish I had been with them! I would have had a great victory too!”
Let those who want to trade this life for the Hereafter fight in the path of Allah. Whoever fights in Allah’s cause and is killed or victorious—we will give them a great reward.
Why should you not fight for the cause of Allah—for those oppressed people: men, women, and children—who cry out, “Our Lord, rescue us from this cruel land and send us someone to help and support us!”
Believers fight in the cause of Allah. Disbelievers fight for evil (taghut). So fight the allies of Satan—his tricks are weak.
Have you not seen those who were told, “Hold back from fighting, establish prayer, and give charity”? But when fighting was commanded, some of them feared people as much—or more—than they feared Allah. They said, “Why did You make fighting mandatory?” Say: The life of this world is short; the Hereafter is far better. You will not be wronged even a tiny bit.
Death will catch up with you wherever you are—even if you’re in tall, guarded towers. When something good happens, they say, “This is from Allah.” But when bad happens, they say, “This is your fault, Prophet.” Say: Everything is from Allah. But why don’t they understand?
Whatever good happens to you is from Allah, and whatever bad happens to you is because of your own actions. We sent you (O Muhammad) as a Messenger to the people. Allah is enough as a witness.
Whoever obeys the Messenger is obeying Allah. But whoever turns away—don’t worry about them. You are not their keeper.
They say, “We obey,” but as soon as they leave you, some of them plot something different at night. Allah records everything they plan. So leave them to Allah and trust Him. Allah is enough to depend on.
Why don’t they reflect on the Qur’an? If it came from anyone other than Allah, they would find many contradictions in it.
When something concerning peace or fear comes to them, they spread it around. If they had referred it to the Messenger or those in authority, it would have been properly understood. If not for Allah’s grace and mercy, most of you would have followed Satan.
So fight in the way of Allah—you are responsible only for yourself. Encourage the believers. Allah will weaken the strength of those who disbelieve. Allah is stronger in power and more severe in punishment.
Whoever makes a good recommendation will get a share of its reward, and whoever makes a bad recommendation will bear a part of the blame. Allah is in control of everything.
When someone greets you, reply with a better greeting or at least return it equally. Allah takes account of everything.
Allah—there is no god but Him. He will gather you all on the Day of Judgment—no doubt about it. And who speaks more truthfully than Allah?
Why are you divided about the hypocrites? Allah has turned them away because of what they did. Do you want to guide those whom Allah let go astray? You cannot guide anyone whom Allah misguides.
They wish you would disbelieve like they do so you’d all be the same. Don’t take them as friends unless they join you sincerely. If they turn against you, fight them and take precautions. Do not take them as allies.
Except for those who join a group you have a peace treaty with, or who come to you with no intention of fighting you or their own people—Allah could have made them fight you, but He didn’t. So if they stay away, offer peace, and do no harm—then Allah does not allow you to attack them.
You will find others who want to stay neutral, but also want protection from both sides. When they are with you, they seem peaceful, but when they return to their group, they attack. If they do not stop and make peace, fight them wherever you find them. Against such people, Allah gives you clear permission.
A believer must never kill another believer—unless by mistake. If someone does this by accident, they must free a believing slave and pay compensation to the victim’s family, unless they forgive. If the victim was from a people you are at war with—but was a believer—then free a slave, no payment. If the victim was from a peaceful group, both freeing a slave and paying blood money is required. If the killer cannot afford this, then fast for two consecutive months. This is Allah’s way—and Allah is Wise, All-Knowing.
Anyone who kills a believer deliberately will face Hell, where they stay forever. Allah is angry with them, curses them, and prepares a terrible punishment.
Believers, when you go out for Allah’s cause, investigate carefully. Don’t say to someone who greets you with peace, “You’re not a believer,” just so you can gain something. Allah has many blessings. You were once in their position—then Allah blessed you. So be careful. Allah is aware of what you do.
Those believers who stay behind (without reason) are not equal to those who strive and struggle with their wealth and lives. Allah has given a higher rank to those who struggle. Still, Allah promises goodness to all believers. But the strivers will get a greater reward.
They will have higher ranks, forgiveness, and mercy from Allah. Allah is Always Forgiving, Most Merciful.
When the angels take the souls of those who wronged themselves, they ask, “What were you doing?” They will say, “We were weak and helpless.” The angels will say, “Wasn’t Allah’s earth wide enough for you to move elsewhere?” These people will go to Hell—a terrible place!
Except those who were truly weak—men, women, and children—who had no means or way out.
It is likely that Allah will pardon them, for Allah is ever Pardoning, All-Forgiving.
Whoever leaves their home for Allah’s cause will find many places and opportunities on the earth. If they die while migrating for Allah and His Messenger, their reward is with Allah. He is Most Forgiving and Merciful.
When you travel, there is no sin in shortening your prayers, especially if you fear harm from disbelievers. Surely, the disbelievers are your clear enemies.
O Prophet! When you are with the believers in battle and lead them in prayer, let a group pray with you while the others stay on guard. After they finish, they take position, and the other group comes to pray. Be alert and cautious. Allah has prepared a painful punishment for the disbelievers.
When the prayer is done, remember Allah—while standing, sitting, or lying down. When you are safe again, perform the prayer properly. Prayer is a set obligation for believers at fixed times.
Do not be weak in pursuing the enemy. If you are suffering, remember they suffer too—but you hope from Allah what they do not. Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.
We have revealed the Book (Qur’an) to you with truth so you may judge between people according to what Allah has shown you. Do not argue on behalf of those who betray trust.
Seek forgiveness from Allah. Surely, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Do not defend people who deceive themselves. Allah does not like those who lie and sin openly.
They hide their sins from people but not from Allah. He is with them even when they secretly plan things He dislikes. Allah surrounds everything they do.
There you are—arguing for them in this world. But who will argue for them with Allah on the Day of Judgment? Or who will protect them?
Whoever commits a sin or wrongs himself and then sincerely asks Allah for forgiveness will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
Whoever sins is only harming himself. Allah is All-Knowing, Wise.
But whoever commits a mistake or a sin and blames it on an innocent person, carries a heavy burden of guilt and a clear sin.
If it weren’t for Allah’s grace and mercy, some of them would have misled you, but they only mislead themselves. They cannot harm you at all. Allah revealed the Book and wisdom to you and taught you what you didn’t know. Allah’s favor on you is great.
Most of their secret talks are not good—unless they encourage charity, goodness, or making peace between people. Anyone who does that for Allah’s pleasure will be greatly rewarded.
Whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has been made clear, and follows a different path from the believers, Allah will leave them to what they chose and send them to Hell—what an evil destination!
Allah does not forgive associating others with Him (shirk), but He may forgive other sins for whomever He wills. Whoever commits shirk has truly gone far astray.
These people only call on female gods or idols—they are only calling on a rebellious devil.
Allah has cursed Satan. He said, “I will take a portion of Your servants.”
“I will mislead them, fill them with false hopes, and command them to change Allah’s creation. Anyone who takes Satan as a friend instead of Allah is at a great loss.”
Satan promises them and gives them empty hopes, but Satan’s promises are only lies.
Such people will end up in Hell, and they will find no escape from it.
But those who believe and do good deeds—Allah will admit them into Gardens under which rivers flow, where they will stay forever. That is a true promise from Allah, and no one is more truthful than Him.
It’s not about your wishes, nor the wishes of the People of the Book. Whoever does evil will be paid back for it and won’t find any helper besides Allah.
But anyone—man or woman—who does good while being a believer will enter Paradise and will not be wronged even a tiny bit.
Who is better in religion than someone who submits himself to Allah, does good, and follows the path of Abraham, who was always true to Allah? Allah chose Abraham as His close friend.
Everything in the heavens and earth belongs to Allah. Allah has full control over everything.
They ask you for a ruling about women. Say: Allah gives you His ruling about them—especially about the orphan girls you don’t treat fairly and don’t marry, and about the helpless children. He commands you to act justly. Whatever good you do—Allah is fully aware of it.
If a woman fears abuse or neglect from her husband, there’s no blame if the two make peace between them. Peace is always best. But people often hold on tightly to selfishness. If you are kind and fair, Allah is aware of what you do.
You’ll never be able to treat all your wives equally—even if you try hard. But don’t completely ignore one of them, leaving her in suspense. If you’re fair and do what’s right, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
If a couple separates, Allah will make both independent and provide for them. He is Vast in His wealth and Wise in His decision.
Everything in the heavens and earth belongs to Allah. We instructed those before you (the People of the Book) and you too: Fear Allah. Even if you disbelieve—everything belongs to Allah.
To Allah belongs everything in the heavens and the earth. He is the best one to depend on.
If He wants, He can take you away and replace you with others. Allah has full power to do that.
Whoever desires the reward of this world, let them know that Allah owns both the reward of this world and the next. Allah is All-Seeing and All-Hearing.
O you who believe! Stand firm for justice and be witnesses for Allah—even if it’s against yourselves, your parents, or your relatives. Whether rich or poor, Allah cares more for them than you do. So don’t follow your own desires and be unfair. If you twist the truth or avoid giving testimony, Allah knows exactly what you do.
O believers! Believe truly in Allah, His Messenger, the Book He sent to His Messenger, and the Books He sent before. Whoever disbelieves in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Last Day has gone far away from the truth.
Those who believed, then disbelieved, then believed again, then disbelieved—then increased in disbelief—Allah will never forgive them, nor guide them.
Give the hypocrites the news of a painful punishment.
They take the disbelievers as friends instead of believers. Are they looking for honor and power through them? Truly, all honor belongs to Allah alone.
Allah has already told you in the Book: If you hear people denying or mocking Allah’s verses, don’t sit with them until they change the subject. Otherwise, you will be just like them. Allah will gather all the hypocrites and disbelievers together in Hell.
The hypocrites wait to see what happens to you. If you win from Allah’s side, they say, “Weren’t we with you?” But if the disbelievers win, they say, “Didn’t we support you and protect you from the believers?” Allah will judge between all of you on the Day of Judgment. Allah will never let the disbelievers have power over the believers.
The hypocrites try to trick Allah, but He is tricking them. When they stand to pray, they do it lazily, just to show off to people. They remember Allah only a little.
They sway between belief and disbelief—neither fully with the believers nor with the disbelievers. Whoever Allah leaves astray will never find a way back.
O believers! Don’t take disbelievers as allies over believers. Do you want to give Allah a reason to punish you?
The hypocrites will be in the lowest level of the Fire, and you won’t find anyone to help them.
Except for those who sincerely repent, correct themselves, hold firmly to Allah, and make their faith pure for Him—those are with the believers. Allah will give the believers a great reward.
Why would Allah punish you if you are grateful and believe? Allah is Always Appreciative, All-Knowing.
Allah doesn’t like people speaking badly in public—except if someone is wronged. Allah hears everything and knows all.
Whether you speak good or hide it, or forgive someone who wrongs you—Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Powerful.
Surely those who deny Allah and His messengers, and want to separate belief in Allah from belief in His messengers, saying, “We believe in some and reject others,”—they want a path in between.
They are truly disbelievers, and We’ve prepared a shameful punishment for the disbelievers.
But those who believe in Allah and all His messengers, and make no distinction between any of them—Allah will reward them. He is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.
The People of the Book ask you to bring down a book from heaven for them. But they had already asked Moses for something greater—they said, “Show us Allah openly!” So a thunderbolt struck them because of their wrongdoing. Then they worshipped the calf even after clear signs had come to them. Yet We forgave them and gave Moses clear authority.
We raised the mountain above them as a sign when We took their promise. We told them, “Enter the gate humbly,” and “Don’t break the Sabbath.” We took a strong promise from them.
But because they broke their promise, rejected Allah’s signs, killed the prophets without right, and said, “Our hearts are sealed”—Allah has sealed them for their disbelief. So they barely believe.
And for their disbelief and slandering Mary with a terrible accusation.
And for saying, “We killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.” But they didn’t kill him or crucify him—it just appeared that way to them. Those who argue about it are full of doubt, with no clear knowledge—just guesses. They definitely did not kill him.
Instead, Allah raised him up to Himself. Allah is Mighty and Wise.
None from the People of the Book will not believe in Jesus before his death, and on the Day of Judgment, he will be a witness against them.
Because of the wrongdoing of the Jews, We made some things unlawful that were previously allowed, and because they stopped many people from Allah’s path.
And because they took interest (usury)—even though it was forbidden to them—and because they unfairly took other people’s money. We have prepared a painful punishment for the disbelievers among them.
But those among them who have deep knowledge, and the believers who believe in what has been sent down to you (O Muhammad) and what was sent before you—and those who establish prayer, give zakat (charity), and believe in Allah and the Last Day—We will give them a great reward.
We have revealed to you (O Muhammad) just as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. And We revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the descendants, and to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon. And We gave David the Psalms.
We have told you about some messengers already, and others We haven’t told you about. And Allah spoke to Moses directly.
They were messengers who brought good news and warnings so that people would have no excuse before Allah after the messengers came. Allah is All-Powerful and Wise.
But Allah Himself testifies to what He sent down to you—He sent it down with His knowledge. The angels also testify. And Allah is enough as a witness.
Surely, those who disbelieve and try to stop others from Allah’s path have clearly gone far astray.
Allah will never forgive those who disbelieve and do wrong, nor will He guide them to any path—
Except the path to Hell. They will live there forever. And that’s easy for Allah.
O people! The Messenger has come to you with the truth from your Lord. So believe—it is better for you. But if you disbelieve, still, everything in the heavens and earth belongs to Allah. Allah is All-Knowing, Wise.
O People of the Book! Do not go to extremes in your religion and do not say anything about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word that He gave to Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and do not say, Three’ (Trinity). Stop saying that—it is better for you. Allah is only One God. He is far above having a child. Everything in the heavens and earth belongs to Him. And Allah is enough to take care of all matters.
The Messiah would never be too proud to be a servant of Allah—nor would the angels who are close to Him. Whoever is too proud and turns away, Allah will gather them all to Himself.
As for those who believe and do good deeds, He will fully reward them and give them more from His grace. But those who were too proud and rejected Him—He will punish them with a painful punishment. And they will find no protector or helper besides Allah.
O mankind! A clear proof has come to you from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear light (the Qur’an).
So those who believe in Allah and hold firmly to Him—He will enter them into His mercy and grace and guide them to a straight path.
They ask you for a legal ruling. Say: Allah gives you a ruling about inheritance when a man dies without children or parents. If he leaves a sister, she gets half of what he left. If she dies without children, he inherits all her wealth. If there are two sisters, they share two-thirds. If there are brothers and sisters, the male gets the share of two females. Allah explains this so you don’t go astray. Allah knows everything. 0 0 0
