Surah 57: Al-Hadid (The Iron): Text
In the Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
(1) Everything in the heavens and the earth glorifies Allah, for He is the Almighty, All-Wise.
(2) To Him belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth; He gives life and causes death, and He has power over all things.
(3) He is the First and the Last, the Most High and the Most Near, and He has perfect knowledge of all things.
(4) He is the One who created the heavens and the earth in six Days, then established Himself above the Throne; He knows what enters the earth and what comes out of it, what descends from the sky and what ascends to it; and He is with you wherever you are, and Allah sees all that you do.
(5) To Him belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and to Allah all matters will return.
(6) He merges the night into the day and the day into the night, and He knows well what is in the hearts.
(7) Believe in Allah and His Messenger, and spend from what He has made you trustees of; those who believe and spend will have a great reward.
(8) What is the matter with you that you do not believe in Allah, when the Messenger calls you to believe in your Lord, and He has already taken your covenant if you are true believers?
(9) He is the One who sends down clear revelations to His servant to bring you out from darkness into light, and Allah is Most Kind and Most Merciful to you.
(10) And why is it that you do not spend in the cause of Allah, when to Allah belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth? Those who spent before the victory and fought are not equal to those who did so afterwards; they are higher in rank, though Allah has promised the best to all, and Allah is All-Aware of what you do.
(11) Who is it that will lend Allah a good loan, so that He may multiply it for him, and he will have a generous reward?
(12) On the Day you will see the believing men and believing women with their light shining ahead of them and on their right, it will be said to them, “Glad tidings for you today: Gardens beneath which rivers flow, to remain therein forever; that is the supreme success.”
(13) On that Day, the hypocrite men and women will say to the believers, “Wait for us so that we may borrow some of your light,” it will be said, “Go back and seek light elsewhere,” so a wall with a gate will be placed between them; inside it will be mercy, and outside facing it will be punishment.
(14) They will call out, “Were we not with you?” They will reply, “Yes, but you let yourselves fall into temptation, you waited for misfortune, you doubted, and false hopes deceived you until the command of Allah came, and the deceiver deceived you about Allah.”
(15) So today no ransom will be taken from you nor from those who disbelieved; your refuge is the Fire, it is your companion, and what a miserable destination it is.
(16) Has the time not come for those who believe to humble their hearts to the remembrance of Allah and to the truth that has been revealed, and not be like those who were given the Scripture before, whose hearts became hardened over time, so that many of them became rebellious?
(17) Know that Allah revives the earth after its death; We have made the signs clear for you so that you may understand.
(18) Surely, the men who give charity and the women who give charity, and those who lend Allah a good loan, it will be multiplied for them, and they will have an honourable reward.
(19) Those who believe in Allah and His Messengers are the truthful and the martyrs in the sight of their Lord; they will have their reward and their light, but those who disbelieve and reject Our signs are the inhabitants of the Fire.
(20) Know that the life of this world is but play and amusement, beauty and boasting among yourselves, and competition in wealth and children; it is like rain whose growth pleases the farmers, then it withers and you see it turning yellow, then it becomes debris; in the Hereafter there is severe punishment, and forgiveness from Allah and pleasure; the life of this world is nothing but the enjoyment of delusion.
(21) Race towards forgiveness from your Lord and a Paradise as vast as the heavens and the earth, prepared for those who believe in Allah and His Messengers; that is the grace of Allah, He gives it to whomever He wills, and Allah is the Possessor of great bounty.
(22) No disaster strikes on the earth or in yourselves except that it is in a Record before We bring it into existence; indeed, that is easy for Allah.
(23) This is so you may not grieve over what has escaped you nor exult over what He has given you; Allah does not like any self-deluded boaster.
(24) Those who withhold and order others to withhold are forgetful that Allah is Self-Sufficient, Praiseworthy.
(25) We have surely sent Our Messengers with clear proofs, and sent down with them the Book and the balance so that people may uphold justice, and We sent down iron, in which there is mighty power and benefits for people, so that Allah may know who helps Him and His Messengers unseen; indeed, Allah is Strong, Almighty.
(26) And We sent Noah and Abraham, and placed in their descendants Prophethood and the Scripture; some of them were guided, but many of them were defiantly disobedient.
(27) Then We sent after them Our Messengers, and followed them with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospel, and placed compassion and mercy in the hearts of his followers; but monasticism they invented—we did not prescribe it for them—only seeking Allah’s pleasure; yet they did not observe it as it should have been observed, so We gave those among them who believed their reward, but many of them were defiantly disobedient.
(28) O you who believe, fear Allah and believe in His Messenger, He will give you a double share of His mercy, grant you a light by which you will walk, and forgive you; and Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful.
(29) So that the People of the Scripture may know that they have no control over the grace of Allah, and that grace is in Allah’s hand; He gives it to whomever He wills, and Allah is the Possessor of great bounty. 0 0 0
