Surah 98: Al-Bayyina (The Clear Proof)

Introduction

Surah Al-Bayyina is the ninety-eighth chapter of the Holy Quran, revealed in Madinah, consisting of eight verses. The Surah addresses both the People of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) and the polytheists, explaining that they did not cease their disbelief until a clear proof came to them — the Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) with purified scriptures (the Quran). It emphasizes the unity of the divine message and calls for sincere worship of Allah, establishing prayer, and giving zakah as the essence of true religion. The Surah contrasts the fate of disbelievers, who will dwell eternally in Hell, with that of the believers who perform righteous deeds and will enjoy eternal paradise with Allah’s pleasure.

Surah 98:  Al-Bayyina (The Clear Proof): Text

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

(1) Those who disbelieved from among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to desist until there came to them clear proof –

(2) A Messenger from Allah, reciting purified scriptures –

(3) Within which are correct writings.

(4) Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided until after there had come to them clear proof.

(5) And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and give zakah. And that is the correct religion.

(6) Indeed, those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.

(7) Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds – those are the best of creatures.

(8) Their reward with their Lord is gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allah being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord. 0 0 0
