ৰচনা (Essay) বুলিলে কোনো এক বিষয়ৰ ওপৰত লিখকৰ দৃষ্টিভঙ্গী প্ৰতিফলিত হোৱা গদ্য ৰচনাক বুজায়। ৰচনাক ঘাইকৈ তিনিটা শ্ৰেণীত ভাগ কৰিব পাৰি, যথা :
(1) বৰ্ণনামূলক ৰচনা (Descriptive Essay)
(1) বিৱৰণাত্মক ৰচনা (Narrative Essay)
(3) চিন্তামূলক ৰচনা (Reflective Essay)
ৰচনা লিখিবলৈ লোৱাৰ আগতে তলত উল্লেখ কৰা নিৰ্দেশাৱলী মানি চলিব লাগে।
প্ৰথমে, ৰচনা লিখিবলৈ লোৱা বিষয়টোৰ ওপৰত তথ্য আহৰণ কৰি ল’ব লাগে।
দ্বিতীয়তে, প্ৰধান প্ৰধান কথাবোৰ (Main points) টুকি লৈ এটি ৰূপৰেখা প্ৰস্তুত কৰি ল’ব লাগে।
তৃতীয়তে, প্ৰধান কথাবোৰ একোটা অনুেচ্ছদত ফাঁহিয়াই লিখিব লাগে। প্ৰয়োজন অনুসৰি কেইবাটাও অনুেচ্ছদতো লিখিব পাৰি।
চতুৰ্থতে, ৰচনা এটিক প্ৰধানকৈ তিনিটা ভাগত ভাগ কৰি প্ৰথমতে লিখিবলৈ লোৱা বিষয়ৰ মূল কথা উনুকিয়াই আৰম্ভণি দিব লাগে। তাৰ পিছত আৰম্ভনিত উনুকিওৱা কথাখিনি যুক্তিসঙ্গতভােব বৰ্ণনা কৰিব লাগে। এইখিনি ৰচনা এটিৰ মূল বিষয় (Subject matter)। শেষত নিজৰ মতামত প্ৰতিফলিত কৰি চমু সামৰণি দিব লাগে।
পঞ্চমতে, প্ৰয়োজন অনুসৰি নিজৰ কথা বা যুক্তিৰ সমৰ্থনত কোনো ব্যক্তিৰ মতামত উদ্ধৃত কৰিব পাৰি।
ষষ্টতে, আত্মজীবনীমূলক ৰচনা নহ’লে ‘মই, আমি’ আদি প্ৰথম পুৰুষ ব্যৱহাৰ নকৰি নৈবৰ্ক্তিকভাবে লিখিব লাগে।
সপ্তমতে, বানান আৰু ব্যাকৰণগত ভুল ভ্ৰান্তিৰ প্ৰতি সাৱধান হ’ব লাগে।
অষ্টমতে, ৰচনা লেখা শেষ হ’লে ৰচনাটি আকৌ এবাৰ পঢ়ি অজানিতে ৰৈ যোৱা ভুল-ভ্রান্তিবোৰ শুদ্ধ কৰিব লাগে।
ৰচনা লিখন অনুশীলন কৰিলে অনুশীলনকাৰীৰ চিন্তা শক্তি, প্ৰকাশ শক্তি, ভাষা শক্তি আৰু লিখন অভ্যাস বৃদ্ধি পায়।

Rules for writing essays
An essay is a prose work that reflects the author’s views on a subject. Essays can be divided into three main categories, viz.
(1) Descriptive Essay
(1) Narrative Essay
(3) Reflective Essay
The following guidelines should be followed before writing an essay.
First, you should acquire information about the topic you are going to write the essay on.
Secondly, an outline should be prepared by noting down the main points.
Thirdly, the main points should be written in a paragraph. Several paragraphs can also be written as needed.
Fourth, an essay should be divided into three main parts and begin by mentioning the main points of the subject to be written. Then explain what was mentioned at the beginning logically. This is the subject matter of an essay. Finally, reflect your opinion and give a brief conclusion.
Fifth, a person’s opinion can be quoted in support of one’s own words or arguments as needed.
Sixth, unless it is an autobiographical essay, it should be written impersonally without using the first person such as ‘I, we’
Seventh, be careful of spelling and grammatical errors.
Eighth, when the essay is finished, read it again and correct any mistakes.
Practicing essay writing improves the thinking power, expressive power, language power, and writing habits of the practitioner.
